PUSHING FORWARD AND HOLDING BACK.

Despite a slow pace the last couple of weeks, I decided to take the week-end off and have a complete break from editing the novel.  This is proving to be an interesting experience.   To begin with I’ve spent some time on another project I started in the New Year – editing my haikus for an ebook – but most intriguing is I can feel my resolve and eagerness to push on with the next chapter building up as I hold back.
 I thought about why I wasn’t achieving as much as I wanted and decided I needed to put in more time on a daily basis especially when the pace of the work has been on the slower side.  Feeling in need of a confidence boost, I reminded myself that I did complete last November’s Nanowrimo where it was mostly a matter of head down and will power. Remembering the sweet exhilaration of watching the word count rise as the writing gained momentum did the trick.
 If I want to keep on track then I simply have to keep plugging away until I achieve it. So for March I’ve decided I will aim to complete two chapters per week. This means I’ll have edited the second strand by the end of the month - and I know this is an achievable target.
            Life sure does have a way of intruding and, boy, can the mind be inventive when it comes to procrastination, but not writing over this week-end has concentrated my resolve and I can’t wait to sit down and write tomorrow.

She had once been a young girl.
They, too, would be old.

Look out for my upcoming haiku collection ‘Haikus Galore’ (working title but I may stick with it) although I’m not giving myself a deadline!

Here are a couple of websites about writing whose advice helps me in my writing;

And if you haven’t read Stephen King’s book ‘On Writing’, I would suggest you do.

For all book lovers out there, I wish you good reading and for those of you who write, good writing.
